Q. At what age or what was the defining moment in your life that you said; “This is what I want to do be a singer”?
A. Music has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I had an opportunity to discover the theatre and stage when I won a scholarship to be a part of a musical theatre program close to home I knew then this was what I was meant to do.
Q. What do you use as inspiration for your songs? Do you write your own songs or do you collaborate with any song writer or writers?
A. Life experiences usually inspire my songs. I collaborate with amazing song writers to express my thoughts and feelings.
Q. When deciding on the song “Need you now” why this particular song? Is it in reference to a particular event or events in your personal life?
A. Well Need You Now is originally from Lady Antebellum and when the song came out I was going through something, so when I got the opportunity to record it as a bachata it was easy to sing because I was able to go back to that emotion and sing from that place.
Q. Most people get to listen to the final product of a song but few are aware of the work and dedication that goes into a song or album, when you go to the studio, do you write down what type of song, music or concept you want ahead of time first or do you go with an open mind and just listen to music and then create the song?
A. It all depends on my mood I do pour my heart and soul into my music and lately for this particular process of recording my album I am just pouring out my heart so I let the music guide me while I am discussing with the particular producer how I feel at the moment.
Q. How much work and dedication goes on in preparing for an event, specially traveling, packing and un-packing? Do you have rituals you always do before the events?
A. A lot of time and effort, every event is different and I have to take some time for myself just to think and get myself focused and always right before I go on stage I always say a prayer saying thanks to God for giving me the opportunity to once more be able to do what I love.
Q.Marlyn, what motivates you every day to pursue all of your endeavors? Because you must have an extremely packed schedule.
A. I have had this dream every since I was a little girl, in my heart I feel that I can do this and that keeps me motivated. I also do have a fan base now and people that really love my music and support it I have been very lucky and this all pushes me to continue fighting even harder to pursue this dream of mine.
