Grupo Mania comes to Perth Amboy's Hall Avenue Festival
Bands come and go in the Latin music world, but the high energy Puerto Rican merengue Grupo Mania are proving they have staying power.
The group, or grupo, is marking its 20th anniversary this year and have just released a new album, “Poderoso.”
“Our audience has given me the inspiration to write and develop my music,” said group member Oscar Serrano in a translated statement. “This has been a career of many accomplishments and sacrifices in our family. I want there to be 20 more years of entertaining and bringing a positive message to our fans as the Lord keeps me alive.”
Grupo Mania are coming through the area with a Sunday, June 9 performance at the annual Hall Avenue Festival on Hall Avenue in Perth Amboy.
Other performers this year include Charlie Cruz and Yerbabuena on Saturday, June 8 and Christian Franco and Julio Cesar Sanabria, along with Grupo Mania, on Sunday, June 9.
The Hall Avenue Festival takes place each year as a complement to New York City's Puerto Rican Day Parade, which marches down Fifth Avenue in New York City on Sunday, June 9.
If you're having trouble finding Hall Avenue in Perth Amboy this weekend, just look for cars flying Puerto Rican flags and follow them — that's where they're going.
